Loving Vincent (PG 13)

Piedmont Arts and Rives Theatre present the first fully painted feature film, Loving Vincent. Gerry Bannan will lead a talk prior to the film screening beginning at 2 pm. Movie begins at 3 pm. On July 27, 1890, a gaunt figure stumbled down a drowsy high street at twilight in the small French country town of Auvers. The man was carrying nothing; his hands clasped to a fresh bullet wound leaking blood from his belly. This was Vincent van Gogh, then a little known artist; now the most famous artist in the world. His tragic death has long been known, what has remained a mystery is how and why he came to be shot. Loving Vincent tells that story. Loving Vincent was shot with actors, including Jerome Flynn, Saoirse Ronan and Chris O'Dowd, and literally painted over frame by frame. For two years, a team of more than 100 painters worked to paint over 65,000 frames on over 1,000 canvases. $5 General Admission • $3 Kids • Age 7 and Under Free Related Events Starry Night in Martinsville Friday, September 14, 2018 • 6 – 9 pm • Piedmont Arts
