Join instructor Elizabeth Walsh in the Piedmont Arts galleries for a time-honored traditional yoga practice for the winter solstice. Walsh has RYT 500 yoga training and 10 years of teaching experience.
This is a vigorous practice that can be adapted for first-time yoga students and fitness of all levels. The group will do 108 sun salutations. The practice is mentally clarifying and will leave your body tired with a soreness from the inside out as a result of stretching and strength that will make you feel more alive.
Bring a mat, water and hand towel. Dress in comfortable clothes.

Spend an afternoon exploring the infinite possibilities of using fabric, thread, beads and other embellishments to create your own Mini Art Quilt. Artist Jennifer Reis will lead an afternoon workshop on basic and advanced hand-worked art quilting techniques, teaching non-traditional methods of quilting, appliqué, embroidery and embellishing.
Using techniques like raw appliqué, embroidery, and embellishing with shi-sha mirrors, beads and found objects, students will create an individually designed embellished textile mini artwork. All techniques are hand-worked, emphasizing non-traditional sewing and quilting, and is open to sewing novices and experts alike. All supplies provided. Advanced registration required.
Experienced watercolor painters (painters just beyond beginner level) can take part in this workshop with watercolor artist Jim McIntosh. McIntosh will provide an introduction to watercolor painting, the color wheel, value sketching and symbols in painting. Students will learn from each other as they all paint the same landscape. Advanced registration required. Bring your own supplies.

About Jim McIntosh, PhD
McIntosh is an award-winning watercolor artist and former college biology teacher. He has been honored with one-man shows at Patrick Henry Community College, Virginia Tech, the North Carolina Aquarium at Ft. Fisher and several galleries and wine shops. His paintings have received many awards, including from the Watercolor Society of North Carolina. His work is in collections across the southern U.S., the United Kingdom, Europe and Russia.

Knitters are invited to work together in the Piedmont Arts classroom on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Sessions are self-guided and provide a space to socialize while creating. Bring your own supplies. Advanced registration required.
