Welcome the holiday season at these community events

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Oct. 30, 2026) — Piedmont Arts welcomes the holiday season with community events, including the Art Garden Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 3, the Holiday Pops Spectacular on Dec. 6, and a food drive from Dec. 1-6.

Art Garden Christmas Tree Lighting

Piedmont Arts invites the community to kick off the holiday season at its annual Christmas Tree Lighting from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in the Gravely-Lester Art Garden.

Enjoy an evening filled with holiday music by the Martinsville High School Jazz Band, festive crafts, delicious cookies, and toasty hot chocolate. Guests of all ages can enjoy a special visit from Gale Buck, also known as Santa’s Woodsman, a storyteller who partners with Saint Nicholas to share the wonder and true spirit of Christmas.

Ian Hogg creates the dazzling 30-foot tree each year using more than 3,000 lights. It will be illuminated at sunset, transforming the Art Garden into a sparkling holiday wonderland.

The Gravely-Lester Art Garden is located at 207 Starling Ave. in Martinsville. It is free and open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. The Christmas tree will be illuminated through New Year’s Day.

The event is sponsored by Brightspeed, Carter Bank, and Chip Wyatt - State Farm.

Holiday Pops Spectacular

Join Piedmont Arts for its annual production of the Roanoke Symphony Holiday Pops Spectacular at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 6, at Martinsville High School Auditorium.

There’s no better way to lift your spirits than with the season's music, delivered in full sound and spectacle by the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Maestro David Stewart Wiley conducts the Holiday Pops with all the magical elements guests have come to expect — high energy, familiar carols, and lots of holiday warmth.

Guest soloist Adelaide Trombetta will join the symphony for a heartwarming celebration of cherished holiday classics. A graduate of Yale’s prestigious Opera Program, the skilled soprano debuted with the Metropolitan Opera under the direction of Marco Armiliato. She is recognized internationally as a world-class singer and a compelling stage performer, and has led concert and stage engagements throughout the United States and Europe.

Tickets are $30 for reserved seating, $20 for general admission, and $10 for students in grades K-12. Tickets are available at Piedmont Arts and here.

The event is sponsored by Brightspeed and supported, in part, by funding from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly.

Food Drive for Grace Network Food Pantry

In the spirit of the holiday season, Piedmont Arts is collecting nonperishable food and hygiene product donations for the Grace Network food pantry.

You may drop off donations at Piedmont Arts from Dec. 1-5 during regular business hours. Piedmont Arts is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Altrusa International of Martinsville-Henry County will collect donations in the lobby of Martinsville High School Auditorium during the Holiday Pops Spectacular from 3-5 p.m. on Dec. 6.
