Piedmont Arts
STEAM Symposium

11/23/19 - 9 AM - 2 PM
New College Institute

NCI and Piedmont Arts are co-sponsoring the first annual STEAM Symposium for educators, students and community supporters who are interested in learning how the arts can be integrated into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) disciplines.

The STEAM Symposium will begin with two breakout sessions beginning at 9:30 am. These sessions, led by STEAM experts, will demonstrate how art and STEM can co-exist to create projects that enhance learning at any age. Critical thinking is the foundation for creativity in both the arts and the sciences.

From 12 – 1:30 pm, a STEAM luncheon will be provided to all STEAM Symposium participants and will be open to the public, reservations are required. The luncheon will include keynote speaker, Dr. James Rolling, Syracuse University Dual Professor of Arts Education and Teaching and Leadership and the current president-elect of the National Arts in Education Association. Renowned author and Hasan Davis will also use his platform of storytelling to bring alive the story of an overlooked hero of color with a theatrical performance, York Explorer.

Immediately following the luncheon, Piedmont Arts will host attendees for a Faerie Kingdom Escape Room from 2 – 3:30 pm at the museum. Registration is required.

Anyone may attend the two morning sessions and/or the luncheon, but attendance requires reservations. The luncheon is open to the public and is for middle/high school students and adults.

To RSVP, contact Ruby Jones at 276.403.5605.
