Professor Elliot Engel thrilled audiences with two funny and informative lectures on Nov. 9.
Engel presented "How William Became Shakespeare" at Bassett High School as part of Piedmont Arts' educational outreach program. The talk expounded on Shakespeare’s influence on modern language and various everyday turns of phrase that are credited to the writer. Engel's lecture was a fascinating way to teach nearly 200 students about the Bard and his impact on the English language.
After his in-school performance, Engel presented the lecture, “The Cold Genius of Robert Frost” at Piedmont Arts. Guests started the evening with a catered meal. After dinner, Engel delighted the gathered audience as he discussed Frost’s unforgettable poetry, “feckless” lifestyle and cantankerous personality.
Engel’s talk was sponsored by King’s Grant, Draper Flowers & Gifts and Third Bay.
