MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Aug. 24, 2026) — “Looted Art: An Opening Journey to Resolution,” a talk discussing art looted during World War II, will take place on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Piedmont Arts. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m., and the talk will begin at 7 p.m.
Issues of looted art and restitution are prevalent topics in art news and are important concerns for museums worldwide. In this talk, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Senior Manager of Provenance Research Karen Daly provides a historical overview of art looting and the museum community's response. She also reflects on how recovery and restitution efforts have evolved to the present day, including a discussion of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ experiences resolving multiple art restitution claims.
