| Works by Daniel Robertson |
Mar 6 through Apr 24, 2010
This exhibit remains admission free through the membership support of people like you!
Robertson's work represents a part of history and a part of the future. His paintings speak to people who recognize what they represent and enlighten younger generations that may not. When looking through old things, one might come across a dipper or a quilt. Separately these items have meaning, but when put together you see much more — a part of people's lives.

Capturing Moments Photography by Randy Sweatt |
Sep 3 through Oct 17, 2009
This exhibit remains admission free through the membership support of people like you!
Sweatt’s interest in photography began at age eleven when his grandparents gave him a Kodak 126 Instamatic camera. A few years later, Sweatt’s parents gave him a small film developing kit. This started his journey as a serious hobbyist and led to a career in professional photography.
Photographically, Sweatt's interests vary wildly: from portraits to nature, architectural to astronomical and large format film to small format digital with a dabble of pinhole thrown in. Capturing Moments includes images, which have been captured digitally and on film and have been printed via inkjet. Many of Sweatt’s images have been adjusted in Photoshop.

Veiled Series Works by Brian Counihan |
Jan 9 through Feb 21, 2009
This exhibit remains admission free through the membership support of people like you!
This exhibit includes three self–portraits painted after the death of Counihan's father. The artist used a veil to obstruct his vision and eliminate his features in an attempt to paint forms rather than features.
The additional paintings in this exhibit share the same origin as Counihan's self portraits. They are "drawn" with paint and images are constructed through the use of random marks. Each canvas ultimately records the history of the work in layers of enigmatic surface, scarred and rutted by submerged descriptions of form.

No Artificial Ingredients Photographs by Sam Davis |
Sep 5 through Oct 25, 2008
FREE!
This exhibit showcases work, which utilizes skills photographer Sam Davis was shown by his father, those he was taught in school and those he learned – and is still learning – each day he has a camera in his hands.
Davis considers filters, light and shadows, shutter speed, depth-of-field control, exposure compensation and time of day as factors when tyring to caputre meaning in his work. However, Davis does not assign meaning to his pieces. Instead, he leaves the viewer to discover any meaning on their own.

| ...And The Tree Was Happy |
Jul 11 through Aug 23, 2008

This body of work by Casey Hammer presents a series of explorations into emotional realms. Each image in this sequence concentrates on an emotional experience the artist has felt, acknowledged and analyzed. Because these emotional states are impossible to describe with words, she chose the tactile – body language – to portray them. These images should inform the audience's understanding of universal emotional elements present in them and in others.

FREE!
Seeing the Moment showcases works by 19 members of the Henry County ProAm Photography Club. Works range in scope from sizeable photographs of rural landscapes to intimate studies in the human condition.
The goal of the Henry County ProAm Photography Club is to foster the enjoyment of photography in the Martinsville-Henry County area. The ProAm Club provides an amicable forum for both amateur and professional photographers to focus their hobby, and both film and digital media are represented. Free-flowing interaction between club members refines their creativity. Emphasis is placed on everyone sharing their images, ideas, techniques and experiences, and also on being open to the suggestions of others. Each month, members bring several recent images, based on the monthly theme and discuss their approach, composition and key shooting conditions. In addition to monthly programs on photographic techniques or principles presented by members, the ProAm Club periodically has workshops led by specialists in their fields. Field trips and other outings provide additional sharing, learning and social opportunities. Members are encouraged to exhibit their images at local venues.
The Henry County ProAm Photography Club meets the first Monday of each month at 7 PM in the Henry County Administration Building. When the first Monday is a holiday, they meet the second Monday. The Henry County Department of Parks and Recreation sponsors this organization.
