Take part in the museum’s annual celebration of African American artists, performers and writers. The event will feature a drumming workshop, story time, crafts, a performance by Kuumba Dance Ensemble, Inc. and a public read-aloud. The Martinsville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will also host a book drive at the event. Guests may bring new or gently used books to donate to local preschools.
Held in conjunction with the National African American Read-In established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. This initiative has reached more than 6 million participants around the world.
